This Wednesday, October 19th, the Seattle Education Association is standing together to voice support for issues on racial equity, closing the opportunity gap, and advocating for equitable quality education for all students. As they state on their Facebook page:
“Seattle Education Association is promoting October 19 as a day of solidarity to bring focus to racial equity and affirming the lives of our students – specifically our black students. Eliminating the opportunity gap and providing an equitable quality public education is at the forefront of our mission. SEA members are leading conversations in their buildings with colleagues, parents, students and communities on these issues. Our SEA Representative Assembly voted unanimously to endorse a collective statement by educators on October 19th that Black Lives Matter.”
At Alki on Wednesday, you may see teachers and staff wearing Black Lives Matter t-shirts and/or engaging in curriculum to around these important issues. Families and students can also show support on Wednesday by wearing Black Lives Matter, We Stand Together, or plain black t-shirts. Or by attending one of the events planned in our area:
