I’m in charge of finding the Executive Committee for the Alki PTA 2016-1017 school year. The current open positions are Fundraising VP and President.
I’m a parent of a kindergarten student at Alki, and I understand how intimidating these two positions might seem in regards to time and other commitments. However, I implore you to think about what it takes to make a successful PTA – a major part of what makes our school such wonderful place to be. Strong parent involvement creates community. Strong parent involvement shows our children we care about their education.
This year, in particular, has proven that strong parent involvement can make a difference. There are many parents that care deeply about the direction of Alki’s future, and I’d love to hear from you. That being said, each Executive Committee position will have a strong support network. If you’ve never been a Fundraising VP or PTA President, don’t worry. The only skills required are a desire to help affect your students’ school in a positive way. Everyone involved with the PTA is a parent, so everyone understands that schedules are stretched thin and time is short.
I was invigorated to see the amount of people that showed up to the last PTA meeting. The parents working to create this community are trying hard to make sure that everyone has a voice and feels connected to the school.
Please contact me if you are interested in discussing these two open positions further. We really need your help to make next year’s PTA a success.
