You won’t want to miss next week’s PTA meeting, Thursday, Nov. 3 (6:30 – 7:30 PM) where we will have special presenters from Mom’s Demand Action (MDA) and their BeSMART gun safety conversation.

MDA is a national, nonpartisan, grassroots organization that began the day after the Sandy Hook school shooting. They envision a country where all children and families are safe from gun violence. Partnering with the National PTA, MDA has launched a ‘Be SMART Campaign’ to prevent child access to guns. The campaign focuses on the importance of conversation, responsible gun storage, and community awareness. There is no political or legislative discussion as part of the Be SMART Campaign.

MDA encourages parents and all adults to “Be SMART” and take these simple steps to help prevent shootings by children:

  • Secure all guns in your home and vehicles;
  • Model responsible behavior around guns;
  • Ask about the presence of unsecured guns in other homes;
  • Recognize the signs of suicide and depression;
  • Tell your peers to be SMART

Childcare will be provided as with all monthly PTA meetings. Please sign up in advance at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c4eaead2baafb6-childcare4
