SUMMER

CLASS LIST & POPSICLE SOCIAL

Find out who your teacher is and enjoy a cold treat in our last days of summer! Teachers and principal in attendance for meet and greet, along with play time on   the playground!

Volunteers needed:  Set up event, serve during event, clean up.

KINDER SUMMER PLAYDATES

Two Kindergarten playdates during the Summer to help the kids (and parents) get acquainted with one another before the first day of school.

Volunteers needed: None


FALL

FIRST DAY RECEPTION(S)

Parents kick off the school year with coffee and treats in the cafeteria.

Volunteers needed: Set up event, serve food, clean up.

BACK TO SCHOOL BBQ

Our back-to-school BBQ is a fun chance to eat and greet and get back on your feet school-wise. Jamba Juice fundraiser smoothies, PTA provides hot dogs and families bring potluck with sides, fruit and healthy treats!

Volunteers needed: Set up event, cook food, serve food, clean up.

KINDERGARTEN EVENING SOCIAL

Our evening “welcome” event for incoming kindergarten families. An opportunity to mingle with other parents, their children and get to know the other kindergarten classes. This is a potluck event.

Volunteers needed: Catering, planning, set up event, clean up.

REFLECTIONS

Reflections is a nationwide PTA-sponsored arts recognition and achievement program. In the fall each year, a new theme is introduced; around which students submit art in various genres. Their work is displayed and judged at the school and in the community and finalists can go on to both the city and state competitions.

Volunteers needed: Promote program, coordinate with city and state organizations, plan awards presentation and art show

SOUNDERS SOCCER GAME

Alki Elementary night with the Seattle Sounders FC when they take on Real Salt Lake at CenturyLink Field.  Kickoff starts at 4 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Alki PTA.

Volunteers needed: Distribute tickets to classrooms.

DUDES & DOUGHNUTS

Enjoy donuts, fresh-brewed coffee, juice and lively conversation with other Alki dads/dad figures, friends and kids. Then walk your child to class when the bell rings. (Mom/guardian/special person welcome.)

CURRICULUM NIGHT

A night dedicated to educating parents in current curriculum standards and practices regarding general education, math and literacy programs. Presentation and Q&A.

Volunteers needed: Planning, set up event, clean up.

PTA ANNUAL AUCTION

Our main fundraising event of the year. The Auction is a fantastic way to generate funds for our school and meet and socialize with other parents and supporters.

Volunteers needed: Procurement, coordinate auction items, marketing, entertainment, decorating for event, help during event, clean up.


WINTER

HOLIDAY STAFF LUNCHEON

A potluck themed luncheon for our staff to celebrate the holidays and show our appreciation for the first half of the year.

Volunteers needed: Cooking, setup, cleanup, and serving.

SCHOOL MUSICAL

This is a 6 week after-school program for 3rd – 5th graders.  The musical gives students the opportunity to work within the professional setting of theatre.  Young thespians learn not only their lines, songs, dances, and staging, but the culture of theatre.

Volunteers needed: costume designers, set designers, poster design and production, parent volunteers at rehearsals, performance volunteers, stage managers, playbill designers and many more.


SPRING

ALKI ADVENTURES

Enjoy an afternoon of arts, crafts, games, and fun!  Students are grouped by preferred activities, making new friends, and meeting different staff members.  It is a collaborative effort in that students earn this privilege by meeting school-wide Alki Reads goals.

Volunteers needed: Assist classroom teachers with arts, crafts, and games.

MISSES & MUFFINS

Enjoy muffins, fresh-brewed coffee, juice and lively conversation with other Alki moms, friends and kids. Then walk your child to class when the bell rings. (Dad/guardian/special person is welcome.)

BIKE RODEO/BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY

Students bring their bikes, helmet, and parents (PARENTS MUST BE PRESENT AND SIGN WAIVER) and perfect thier bike handling skills and safety awareness fun bike rodeo stations on the Alki Playground.  On Bike to School day, two bike trains make their way to Alki and park on the courtyard.  There are snacks and a raffle for participants.

ART SHOWCASE

Art and wonderful student performances celebrate all that our students have worked so hard on throughout the year in Alki’s multi-arts class with Ms. Scranton.

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK

Help us show the staff at Alki how much we appreciate the work they do all year long with a little pampering each day this week that might include: parents provide potluck lunch, smoothies, flowers, thank you cards from students and more!

Volunteers needed: CHAIR, Planning, set up each day, organizing student activities.

ALKI-A-THON

Build school spirit, promote healthy habits and raise funds for PTA-sponsored school activities! Students collect pledges but are not required to participate. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Lap games, music, snacks, beverages and a souvenir T-shirt highlight the day. The event takes place outside on the Alki playfield in late spring, rain or shine!

Volunteers needed: Planning, set up event, cut oranges, lap counters, clean up.

SPRING BBQ

Our annual Spring BBQ is a family celebration to close out the school year. Jamba Juice fundraiser smoothies, PTA provide hot dogs and parent bring potluck sides, fruit and healthy treats.  Rain or shine!

SPIRIT WEEK

Alki Elementary PTA and Principal Deese have partnered to create a Spirit Week for our children. The fifth graders will meet, plan and vote on the events for this week. A wonderful team-building and celebration.

RAZZLE DAZZLE DAY

An end-of-the-school year tradition with a carnival-style setting, including treats, arts, games, and crafts!

Volunteers needed: Planning, set up event, coordinate different areas of event, and clean up.

5TH GRADE BREAKFAST

Our annual Fifth Grade Breakfast is a celebration of the graduating fifth graders and their families. PTA-hosted main course and parent provide potluck sides, fruit and healthy treats.
